If I had known how far up I was going to be
hiking walking up a mountain, I would have:
- Dressed appropriately
- Downsized my baggage
- Brought a drink
- Told my dad where I was going (to be ‘safe’)
- Took a selfie at the top
- Pretended to be ill and stayed in bed..just kidding.
By any walkers means, it’s not even that much of a journey. For me, carrying two camera bodies, 2 rucksacks, 2 phones, several lenses and wearing a giant parka with a jumper it was quite the trek! A trek I would do again today though- it’s a stunning location.
A Welsh castle. Well, the remains of a castle, set in Snowdonia National Park near Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd. Castell Carndochan. (Carndochan Castle) That’s where Katy & Dochan took me for their pre wedding/anniversary shoot.
Overlooking Llanuwchllyn and with views of Llyn Tegid (Bala lake), the views are like that of a different world.
Katy & Dochan chose this location precisely 1 year after Dochans proposal.
Dochan proposed to Katy after several years together. He took her for a walk up another Snowdonia mountain (naturally) directly above Llyn Tegid which can be seen to the right in some of the photos. His cousin Lois helped him pick out the ring on Christmas Eve 2014 and it wasn’t until April 2015 that he popped the question. The ring had been hidden under his truck seat for months!
For the shoot they decided to go to Dochans namesake. Castell Carndochan. I mean, why wouldn’t you want your pre wedding shoot on top of a castle you were named after, that also looks over where you proposed AND the location you’ll marry in the following April?! Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge how perfect that is!
I met Katy when I shot her salon KPS Hair Lounge last year, she booked her 2017 wedding with me shortly after and I also photographed Carmel’s wedding in December who just so happens to be Dochan’s sister. Situations like this make the process even more sentimental to a sap like me. When you’ve met people so many times and they return to you. It’s a great feeling and to be privy to so many amazing moments in their family is an honour.
I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in April 2017, they are a DREAM to shoot and they understand the collaboration between us to make memories. Katy braved some mighty strong and bitterly cold winds to get these images and that’s the sort of dedication you can only hope to encounter. Plans are already in place to top the pre wedding shoot with their post wedding shoot in summer 2017. I wonder what mountain i’ll be climbing for that!
